Pianos

I have two Steinways in my piano studio.  A 1960 Steinway Professional Studio upright, on which my grandmother practiced when she began piano lessons as a woman in her sixties!  When I married and began teaching, my grandparents gave me this instrument. I teach beginners and small children on it until they have reached the intermediate level. It has a lovely tone, good touch, has been almost completely rebuilt in recent years. And it is beautiful to look at, with it’s pineapple legs and walnut finish.

The other piano in my studio is a Steinway M, 1924. My mother, a Peabody trained  amateur pianist,  purchased this piano when I was about nine years old from Bernard Comsky, a concert pianist and former student of Sergei Tarnowsky. At the time of the purchase, Comsky was still teaching and concertizing, but also owned a small store in West Los Angeles that was packed with hand picked used, refurbished ( if necessary) Steinways. My mother gave me this instrument around 1990. It has been largely rebuilt in recent years. All my intermediate and advanced students take lessons on this beautiful instrument, with it’s bell like treble, full bass, and fast action.

In 1973, I purchased a 6’1″ Grotrien grand on which I practice daily. My students use this instrument for recitals ( see the picture on the Home page). This instrument has a lovely mellow tone and amazing response. My students look forward to the opportunity to use it for recitals, which are usually held in my living room.
