“I had the privilege of taking piano lessons from Jessica Klass from ages 9 to 18. Through her patient and effective teaching style, she instilled both a love of music and discipline that my family and I are still benefitting from nearly 30 years later. Jessica taught me excellent technical skills in playing, interpretation/musicality, as well as music theory. She provided opportunities to perform in recitals for family as well as larger audiences and competitions, which gave me confidence that helped me in other areas of my life. Her teaching method was right for me at all stages of my childhood—she understood me and how to sustain my love for music.”

Equally exciting are transfer students, challenging them to try out new approaches and repertoire, sometimes while undoing difficulties that have plagued them in the past. While it takes hard work, commitment, discipline, and parental support to accomplish our goals, my hope is to inspire each child to find a special connection to the music they study and perform. To that end, I tailor the instruction and assignments to meet the student’s ever changing, ongoing development.
“As a piano teacher, Jessica was attentive to my teenage musical preferences, selecting new pieces for me to learn that perfectly suited my sensibilities and skill level, but challenging me to grow and excel. Through Jessica, I learned a large and diverse repertoire of classical works I still play today, decades later.”

Students receive at least one hour of instruction weekly, divided into two thirty minute sessions for younger children. Lessons include training in technique, tone production, ear training and listening skills, music history and analysis, sight reading skills, theory, diverse repertoire, and performance practice, with careful attention paid to body mechanics and ergonomics to avoid injury. I choose repertoire that fits the student’s needs and work with them to bring each selection to performance level, going beyond what is on the page and nurturing the artist within to achieve the highest level of expression possible. Excellence in performance brings students pride in their accomplishments and inspires them to do more.
When students are trained with sufficient skills,
the joy of music making becomes a reality.
